Everyone carry's their phones and not just the students teachers use their phones at school just as much as a normal students. We have a source for help that were told to put away and were not allowed to have our phones and or electronics. But if we have these sources, Why not use them.In the article "Social Media As A Community" it says "In 2011, I was lead author of an article in Information, Communication & Society that found, based on a representative survey of 2,500 Americans, that regardless of whether the participants were married or single, those who used social media had more close confidants." This piece of text shows that social media is not isolating nor is it bad. Shut Down Your Screen Week has no purpose, they want an entire week without technology in which has helped us and has gave us the advantages.Technology is a great way of finding sources and information and we need it on a regular day bases in which is due to the modern world. Students have a lot of pressure when it comes to homework and how much they count toward our grades. So when it comes to needing help the internet has helped us because its hard to do it on our own.In the article "Education 2.0: Never memorizing again" the text says "It is enough that they know about the Battle of Hastings, without having to memorize that it was in 1066. They can look that up and position it in history with a click on Google,” he said." Not every student can memorize everything as if it was programmed into our mind as a teacher taught it to us. With the internet the little things we forget it gives us many sources and information that become useful to us. Some may argue that technology is dangerous and causes issues. In which in the article" Attached to technology and paying a price" it says" The resulting distractions can have deadly consequences, as when cellphone-wielding drivers and train engineers cause wrecks. " In which has been and is still a huge problem ,But instead of taking away technology in which can help us but instead just teach teenagers the benefits of technology and to not use it unwisely. Taking away technology for a week would just make people want to use it more in which means when the week is over we would constantly use it in which could cause more wrecks and more

This comical take on the socialization of the Internet is extreme. Today, we need both pond-skaters and scuba divers; we need to master the ability to access facts while reserving time and space to do something meaningful with them. It is true our technologies are changing us, but in ways we can neither anticipate nor control. Because of the instant access to the Internet, we are able to get answers faster and more efficiently; this gives us an advantage toward learning, and in return can affect us. Overall I feel that if the Internet is being overused, therefore there may be long term gradual effects. I’m willing to take risk the chance, if I’m learning; soaking up new information in the process. Lastly, Carr says: "As we come to rely on computers to mediate our understanding of the world, it is our own intelligence that flattens into artificial intelligence." This may be true, if you wrongly abuse your sources of information; just as anything can be misused. Take and use what we have when we need it, not just only when we want it and have to have…

Imagine seeing an average West Valley student that uses his phone and watches television in moderation and completes his homework. Now meet Quinton Schafer, a self proclaimedself-proclaimed screen abuser. Schafer confessed to using his computer for several hours a week on a school night. His screen time doubles on weekends to about twelve hours. Since he attends West Valley High School he must also juggle school work and his athletics. The result is that he is unable to do all of this and must sacrifice time to pursue his computer habits. Not only will they consume precious time, but they do much worse. Why “Screen Free Week” Should Not Be Considered Does technology negatively affect us, or does it inflict beneficial learning capabilities? The wide use of technology entwined around our lives, especially at school, has definitely changed the way we operate. Without doubt, this contentious topic has intrigued several minds, including parents and staff at Sonora High School. In fact, they believe that by participating in “Shut Down Your Screen Week,” a national event demanding a week off all electronic devices, students would open up their minds beyond screens. While many argue that by being engaged to this event, students will be more productive and creative, I on the other hand, believe it’s an incompetent idea because technology is a key aspect…

Electronics are taking over the new generation. Parents believe that if students have week where they don’t use any electronics they would be more focused. Students shouldn’t have electronics for a week because it makes them distracted from their work and they are not thinking to their full potential. Students are constantly using online sources to figure out their problems, but without the internet they will have a chance to have deeper thinking. With no internet students will recognize how much more focused they will be.…

What is National Shut Down Your Screen Week? Shut Down Your Screen Week is when you shut down all electronic devices at school everyday for a week. They say that electronics distracts the brain, they also say it’s okay to use your electronic devices to help your school work. Technology helps us in a big way, they help us with our homework and assignments, they help us study for that big test by using flashcards and practice tests, and they help us understand a subject or a topic that we don’t understand by watching videos or doing pre tests. Our school should not participate in the national Shut Down Your Screen Week because we need to interact with other people/other family members across the world, the internet gives us ideas in case we…

On-task behavior is very important in the classroom. According to Jones & Jones (2010), on-task behavior should be magnified more so than off-task behavior. “Although we often fall into the trap of believing that critical remarks will improve students’ behaviors, research suggests that the opposite is true.” (Jones & Jones, 2010, p. 75). Technology has affected the ability to keep students on task in both negative ways and positive ways. It has affected the ability to keep students on task negatively with the distraction of personal smart phones that divert students from their school work and activities. In many of the classes that I have observed over the last school year, students were on their cell phones watching YouTube videos or checking their Facebook pages. Some teachers allowed students to have their cell phones out if they finished all of their school work and others had a zero tolerance policy for cell phones in the classroom. Technology has affected the ability to keep students on task in a positive way by using different methods to grasp students’ attention; PowerPoint presentations that can be visually stimulating, educational video clips as well, and personal devices that allow students to respond to multiple choice questions during class discussions. Teachers should regulate the use of technology to prevent classroom management issues by having a zero tolerance policy for cell phones. I believe that cell phones are more of a hindrance in the classroom and students are too distracted by text messages and Facebook updates. Technology can be used to prevent classroom management issues by engaging students in lessons that integrate technology like the examples I have previously listed. Websites like…

One reason why our school should participate in the national “Shut Down Your Screen Week” is because it could prevent students from being distracted. Instead of students worrying about their devices, they would concentrate more on their education. In the article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid,” under the sub headed, “YES,” it states that “If we’re distracted, we understand less, remember less, and learn less.” This shows that students understand less content that the teachers are teaching, resulting in a higher chance of failing. In order to prevent this from occurring, our school should participate in the national “Shut Down Your…

Smith begins by establishing the connection today’s students have to the internet and its resources. “Pencils and paper,” he says, are being moved out of the way for “keyboards, webcams, and online drop boxes (Smith 3).” Smith attacks his argument using examples that seem to come from his experience with MyRED and EBSCO search engine, he claims that now more than ever students are completely dependent upon online resources (6). He goes on to mention the convenience of such online supplements, such as being able to register at any time online with MyRED, the ability to check grades or assignments from anywhere on Blackboard, or being able to access a greater wealth of information through search engines like EBSCO(6). As soon as Smith has established the reliance on technology that students have today, he shifts gears. Smith before he goes anywhere with his information, his approach to explaining the amount of weight put on students through the internet shifts to explaining how today’s students are irresponsible and can’t handle the freedom of online…

The Internet and other forms of technology have been involved in the reformation of our lives. The article, "Is Google Making Us Stupid," by Nicholas Carr primarily focuses on the influence of the internet on our thinking behaviors, while in the article "Another Look Back, and a Look Ahead," by Edward Tenner mainly focuses on advances and setbacks of that go hand in hand with technology. In the modern world, technology has been an extremely vital well of knowledge that contributes to our lives. The internet includes all sorts of information on all topics one can think of. It allows for us to answer all of our questions with a very simple steps. Even though the internet and technology are undeniably important assets of the modern world, people should rely more on their skills rather than relying on technology for all their necessities. The ability to socialize with others is more important than the internet. It is the basis of our lives and the only method of communication between human beings. There have been more cases of social awkwardness than ever before, and it is believed to be connected with the internet. Simply sitting down in front of a monitor and searching for all that we need isolates us from those around us and takes away some of our social abilities, thus making it harder and more awkward to get back into society.…

Technology seems to be making a huge impact on our lives every day. The internet has everything you need to know and more. There’s search engines that can help you do your shopping, there’s games, there’s chat rooms and also recourses to help yourself out in schooling needs. However I do see how it has been taking over our world. In the story “Y2K CHATRM43” Adrein talks about how Joel spends way to much time on the computer and thinks it’s useless, however Joel sees it differently. In this story I agree with Joel, there’s so much to do on the Internet, it can be very helpful for social needs and for schooling needs. Chat groups can be used to help you out in school. Having that can help you out with understanding school work and what not. The internet is also helpful with school because teachers can put the assignments online so we can access them. Online books help out a lot also instead of having to carry that huge text book home you’ve got it all right there in front of you online. Another reason I feel as if the internet is very useful is because there’s videos online that explain school work and certain subjects. If your teacher doesn’t explain the assignment good enough for you, theres online videos that can help you get a better understanding. They say in the future all schooling will be online, all kids will have their own computers to do their work and there won’t be teacher lectures anymore! What will the future bring?…

To begin with, a risk of technology is causing distractions. “If we’re distracted we understand less, remember less, and learn less.” (Is Google Making Us Stupid?) The internet distracts people with different notifications that interferes with…

We are so reliant on the internet to deliver us basically everything. It’s rare that a household wont have WI-FI. As a society we rely too much the internet. This causes people to go out in the world less. Why go see a movie in a theater when its available to stream right in the living room. We are becoming lazy, this is also a cause of depression. The internet is also changing the way people think, as well as their cognitive thinking process. Our generation does not have as much advanced thinking skills as the generation before us. When a question is asked, or when research is being conducted; people use search engines to find all of the information as quickly as possible. This creates a mindset that the internet will do all of the thinking for a person. Essentially making the person lazy, and have the mindset that they can just look everything up online. This type of thinking is not productive, before the internet; when books were used as the main source of information, the person must read the book to find the desired information, which intern, could result in learning more information. More opportunities for deep thought are presented, therefore the person might understand and actually take in the information. With the internet people have the easy way out, they can look up answers for assignments or try and cheat off someone else’s essay. People are lazy, and the internet helps them become even lazier. The internet…
