Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining
There is no such thing as a perfect human mind. We are all a little fucked up –some are in worse condition than others of course, but deep down, there is something wrong with all of us. Silver Linings Playbook is an impressive romantic comedy in where this reality is being beautifully expressed. The main story is developed around the lead character; an undiagnosed bipolar man whose lost everything and whose battle with insanity is the viewers’ main entertainment. The skewed support he receives from his loved ones is something we can all relate to and exposes the fact that none of us are anything close to what could be described as “normal”.
The film is based around Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) who just returned to his parent´s house after an eight-month stay at a mental institution. He found himself there after beating his cheating wife´s lover nearly to death. When Pat is released, his goal and only desire is to get his life and wife back and fascinating characters that come in and out of his life are controlling his obsessive behavior. When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious young woman with problems of her own – an odd but beautiful bond begins to form between the two. Together, Pat and Tiffany share the experience of broken marriages and mental illness, and with a little help from Pat´s family, the two decide to make a deal. Pat´s family has their heart in the right place but have plenty of their own issues. With an obsession for the Philadelphia Eagles football team and a gambling addiction, the father (Robert DeNiro), is constantly haunted by his wild past and deals with plenty of mental issues throughout the movie.
The film is cast impeccably, and the character´s play their manic episodes with a perfect amount of anxiety, panic and trauma without the slightest exaggeration. All the characters are charmingly illustrated with a beautiful complexity, showing off a great range of

Louis Nowra has used black comedy within Cosi to allow the audience to abandon their pre-conceptions of ‘mad’ people and to see the characters not for their illness but for their personality. Because of this the audience is able to relate to each character and their situation and realise the underlying sadness of the patients’ lives. Each character brings their own experiences and personalities into the play which creates the audience to perceive characters differently. One of the most obvious perceptions of some characters in the play is the sympathy and pity they invoke through their characters development. The character Roy, who suffers from manic depression, creates sympathy from the audience due to his tragic childhood and consent rejection from society and even the ‘insane’. Julie is also another character who’s also perceived as tragic. Julie is a patient in the asylum due to drug dependency which ultimately causes her death after the play has finished.…
