INTRODUCTION
Sociology of Education deals with the study of how social institutions and forces affect educational process and outcomes, and vice versa. But by many education is understood to be a means of over coming handicaps, achieving greater quality and acquiring wealth and status for all (sergeant 1994) learners may be motivated by aspirations for progress and betterment.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
SOCIOLOGY: it is a Latin word Socius meaning “Companion” and Ology a Greek word meaning “Knowledge”. Sociology means the general study of the society e.g. social relation, social interaction, culture, social stratification.
EDUCATION: could be defined as a place where children can develop according to their unique needs and potentialities.
SOCIOLOGY OF EDUCATION: is concerned with matters like, educational attainment, relationship between home and school, relationship within and within class rooms.
THE CONTENT
Sociology of education gained interest of socio logical studies done on the subject stratical and field research across numbers societies should a persistent link between individual’s social class and achievement and suggested that education could only achieve limit social mobility. Moreover, sociology of education as branch of study is very helpful in finding the relation between sociology and education.

THE ROLES OF SOCIOLOGY OF EDUCATION TO EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
 It helps the teacher education in social issues in teaching learning environment and assists them to relate well, professionally, ethically and morally.
 It gives the teacher insight on how well to interact with the students and to understand their cultural background and social setup.
 It helps the teacher to know the social stratification and to understand students issues better and make the learning environment conducive.
