Specific Purpose:
When I am done with my speech I want the class to be persuaded to not text and drive.
Central Idea:
Texting while driving kills.
Introduction:
Young adults are the most common age group found texting and driving. 75% of young adults, teens especially say texting and driving is common among their friends.
Body:
I. Statistics of Texting and Driving a. 60% of all licensed drivers text and drive. b. 23% of all fatal car crashes are a result of texting while driving.
II. The risks of texting and driving.
a. 5 seconds of looking at your phone while driving 55 mph is equivalent to driving the distance of a football field.
b. When you use a cell phone while driving you delay your reaction time to the equivalent of driving under the influence.
III. How to resist the urge of texting while driving.
a. Turn your phone on silent and put it faced down so you can’t hear or see incoming text messages.
b. Have a designated texted for while you drive if possible.
Conclusion:
Stop the habit now. Whether it be to save yourself from a ticket in certain states or to save your life or the life of someone else. So don’t text and drive because texting and driving kills. Go online to it can wait .com and take the pledge to not text and drive.
