Stereotypes Of Being In Pageants
Every time we see or meet someone we instantly judge them, even if we do not mean to. The same goes for us; however, we are constantly being judged by everyone around us. I have been judged in many ways: from playing sports, to competing in pageants, making first impressions with others, and making my own decisions. People judge me for being in pageants; there is a stereotype around them that the contestants are dumb blondes, which is not true I graduated as one of the top in my class along with all of the girls I have competed with. I was offered many scholarships to colleges across the state, and some pageants even give out scholarships to the winners. Pageant girls actually have to be smart to be able to do the interview with the judges. Then with softball it is a whole different stereotype, softball players are supposed to be tomboys and love to get dirty, but getting dirty is just part of the game. When people find out I did softball and pageants, I get a look of confusion because those two things do not usually go together. Whenever I tell anybody that I plan on being a special needs teacher I get a look of disbelief like why would I do that? But then they say that it takes a very special person to do that job. Well no one knows why I decided that as my major and when I tell them I decided it because I have a little cousin with special needs then they are just like oh. I also have been judged on who I date I am a white girl from Russellville that dated a Hispanic and trust me when I say that gets a lot of attention. It was not always easy because of the attention we got but we ended up being together for almost four years. But what people did not get is that I did not care that he was Hispanic he was one of the sweetest guys I had ever met and he treated me with respect and is that not all that
