Strength-Based Approach To Social Work
It is important in the field of Social Work, where one may have many diverse clients, to be attune to issues of cultural competencies. Sue(2005) established cultural competency as four part process that includes awareness of one own’s assumptions and values, understanding the world view of clients, developing an appropriate intervention and understand organizations/institutions that help or hinder cultural competency. My experience as a marginalized individual has made me more cultural competency central to how I approach social work practice. Furthermore, I strongly believe in a strength based approach to social work. Specifically, in relation to resilience, or patterns of positive adaptation to past or present adversity, I realized that
