TDA 2.14 Support children and young people at meal and snack times
4.1 Explain the importance of personal hygiene at meal and snack times
As part of healthy eating, it is important that you promote hygiene. You will need to guide the children and young people in the setting by giving clear explanation of the importance of personal hygiene at meal and snack times. This should be done by
● They should wash their hands thoroughly before eating, to prevent the risk of any infection.
● Anti­bacterial soap and disposable paper towels will be provided.
● Children should be sat at a table to eat their meal and snacks.
● Ensure that children do not touch other people’s food or put food back.
● Ensure that any food dropped on the food is replaced with a clean piece to prevent any infection.
● Children should also not cough openly.

5.1 Describe the setting code of conduct and policies for meal and snack times

In my setting when it is snack or lunchtime, the children are asked to visit the toilet as well as to wash their hands, before coming to the table for their meals, in an orderly fashion way. The setting used meal and snack times to encourage the children to develop independence through making choices, serving food and drink and feeding themselves. To protect children with food allergies, sharing or swapping of food between children are discourage. Staff will join the children on the table during lunch and will make sure everyone is okay. The children is encourage either by words or action by the staff how good table manners are. For example, not talking when our mouths are full or stretching across the table to get something. When packed lunches are brought into the setting for lunch, parents are informed about our policy on healthy eating and is encouraged to put healthy items in their lunch boxes.
The setting reserve the right to return food considered unsuitable, to the parent
