Ted Bundy: A Serial Killer
Why Ted?
Theodore Robert Cowell, better known to the world as Ted Bundy, was a serial killer in the United States during the 20th century. It is unknown exactly the number of victims Ted had during his killing spree but himself has been quoted as admitting to at least 30 murders crossing seven different states. Authorities ae under the assumption that Ted could be responsible for over a hundred murders during his life. To this day, it puzzles authorities as to how Ted could continue his heinous crimes for such a long period without being caught. The relationship with Stephanie would forever change Ted. Stephanie was Ted’s first love and he was infatuated with her to the point of obsession. Stephanie felt that Ted had no direction in his life and a year later, Stephanie would end the relationship. Because of the breakup, Ted became depressed and went on a soul-searching mission that took him back to his hometown. While in his hometown, it is said that this is when he discovered that the person that he thought was his sister, was his mother. This information is what many believe led to Ted acting out in violent ways and turned him into a killer. Upon returning to Seattle in 1972, Ted began working within the political sphere and things were looking up for him, He was even commended by the Seattle police for saving the life of a three-year-old boy who was drowning in a lake (“Theodore Robert Bundy #106”, 2014) In 1973, Ted and Stephanie began their relationship yet again and visited each other often. During Ted’s first semester in Utah, he killed four more women, one of which ended up being the daughter of a police chief. The next semester, in the spring of 1975, he killed four more women, three of which were killed in Colorado during a skiing trip that he took to Aspen. The fourth victim was a 13-year old girl, Lynette Culver, who was abducted from a school playground in Pocatello, Idaho. Ted took her to a hotel room where he sexually assaulted her and killed her by drowning her in the bathtub. As with numerous victims of Ted, her body was never found. During the summer break from school, Ted admitted to killing fifteen-year-old Susan Curtis and burying her body on the side of the highway.
