The Ballad of David and Goliath
The Poem of David and Goliath In those days of long ago,
A battle fought between two foes.
Goliath shown, a Giant tall,
Against young David to stand or fall!
A challenge sounded out that day,
T'ward the camp sent Israel’s way.
A call to arms for one lone man,
Against that Giant there to stand!
One on one to fight each there
Two lone warriors, their strength to bear.
Winners then would take things all,
The losing side, to slavery's call!
T'was in those days this battle fought
Between two foes, the victory sought.
Goliath seen; A Giant tall
'Gainst young David this fight did call.
Now David was a shepherd lad,
Whose use of sling was all he had.
Five small stones he took that day,
To hold defeat then there at bay.
Goliath was a Giant born,
His own enemies, he scorn,
With spear and shield He trod on out,
Giving with an angry shout! T'was in those days of long ago, This battle then did come to blow.
Giant Goliath, strong in might, Against young David, stands to fight. Disdainful then, he called out clear, Holding forth his sword and spear! But David running, placed in sling, One small stone and made it sing! Guided straight by God's own hand, Upon the forehead there to land! That Giant fell to earth to stay, Giant Goliath, was there slain that day. Having there no sword his own, He took the Giant's, and made it known. Young David, removed that head there clean, Those Philistines there, by them was seen. Three thousand years ago, That battle fought between two foes. Goliath slain, that Giant fell Into the gates of death and hell! When they saw their champion dead, Those Philistines , away they fled. Through David’s faith this deed was done, And by God's strength this victory won. That shepherd boy, a warrior grown, a bravery ruler known, He played the harp and did there sing, And grew up then, became the King!
