The film ‘the boy in the striped pyjamas’ based on the novel by John Boyne was changed to adapt to a different audience. This is shown through the changing of the story for an older audience. There are various amounts of differences between the novel and the movie one of them being Bruno’s age. Another major difference is Bruno’s mother. One of the other big differences is at the ending of the novel and the film.
In the novel Bruno is 9 years old but in the film he is 8 years old the reason being for this is because the audience will see Bruno as a young boy who is innocent and is not as influenced as all the people around him.
In the novel the mother is not as against to what is happening to the Jews. But in the film the mother is far more emotional and sympathetic to the Jews this allows the audience to have a character which reflects their own disgust at the situation.
The plot at the end of the novel differs to the film, in the novel the epilogue which explains how Bruno’s family comes to terms with Bruno. Whereas in the film has a more dramatic ending with how Bruno’s family finds out about him.
The film and the movie a quite different, personally I prefer the novel to the film. The reason being for this is the book is more descriptive about the events that take place in the in the novel the boy in the striped
