Army regulation that governs the soldier’s hair and grooming practices and/or accommodations because of religious practices. The requirement for hair grooming standard is important to maintain uniformity within a soldier population. Many hair styles are acceptable as long as they are very neat and conservative. Soldiers were given exceptions based on religious practices in accordance with Army Regulation 600-20 on and before to 1 January 1986 which still remain in effect as long as the soldiers remain otherwise qualified for retention. It is impossible to address every acceptable or unacceptable haircut, or what is or is not eccentric or conservative grooming of the hair. The leaders at all levels are responsible for exercising good judgment of the Army policies and regulations. Judgment of certain haircuts and or hairstyles is supposed to be determined while the soldier’s headgear is worn.Army Regulation 670-1 covers the wear and appearance of military uniforms. Wearing the military…

This entails ironing on carefully measured creases into the front and back of the working blues shirt, keeping our leather shoes gleaming and making sure that the dirt on the edges is cleaned off, and getting haircuts when needed. Although this helps plebes look clean and squared away, giving the effort to maintain a good-looking uniform also ensures that we “maintain the integrity of our uniforms”, as Admiral McRaven discussed. The working blues, SDB’s, and other uniforms we wear are more than just clothing – they are representations of the Navy. Every time we dress in our uniforms, we are serving as physical embodiments of the Navy, including its pride, heritage, and the sailors and Marines that strive to keep our nation secure. Thus, plebes and upperclassmen alike must be willing to maintain clean and well-kept uniforms not only to make ourselves look tidy, but to also represent the greater whole, or in this case, the United States…

Over time the uniform of a soldier has change. Since the days of the Revolutionary War to today modern wars in Afghanistan and Iraq the uniform has change but the guide lines has not. As the uniform evolved, so has the regulation that covers it has also. The regulation that covers this is Army Regulation 670-1, the covers everything from how to cut and maintain your hair to how to wear jewelry, eyeglasses and sunglasses. This regulation is something every soldier should read, even the ones who have been in for over ten years. Because from what I have learned is that this regulation is constantly changing.…
We are living in the 21st century which technology and fashion are designed for the young people, especially students. They want to use and wear something new, modern and style. Most of the students need to wear whatever they want to school to show other people. The school should have a policy for students to wear a uniform. School is an education center; it is not a fashion show place. All students should wear uniform at school. When students wear uniform the school develops a disciplined climate, the students feel equal in spite of the fact that some people say that student should not wear uniforms because lose important freedoms.…
Also, the photo indicates that wearing same uniforms is easier to control students. By stating the original reason of being introduced to wear uniforms is help with discipline where appears to tradition and custom, it encourages the reader to resist change, and to feel there are reasons why people chose to wear same uniform in the past. Approvers who are agree in not wearing uniform in schools states a counter example of Australian Army with uniform and discipline. The fact of they reject a new pink uniform positions the reader to agree that uniforms are not reasons of students being self-discipline. Also, combined with the statement of one student, “choosing what you want to wear is a fundamental human right” to make a question of why students cannot be treated equally as the soldiers, which can create a sense of sympathy for the reader. Meanwhile, it indicates how unwilling these students are wearing uniforms, which has effect on making the reader to consider if uniforms is really good for students.…
The following essay is a compilation of my personal experiences, definitions, and examples of how discipline is important to surviving in today’s U.S. Army. Discipline is increased when one constantly adheres to the standards set by his superiors and maintains not only his bering, but appearance as well. Discipline is: acting in accordance with the rules put in place and behaving in accordance to the rules of conduct as well as maintaing the standard set by superiors (i.e. shaving everyday). Being disciplined in the US Army has got to be of the utmost importance in my opinion. Throughout the past few months I have been dealing with many problems physically and mentally, and I strongly believe that this has, in part, to blame for my lack of discipline and then in lack of standards in my appearance. Even so, this is really no reason at all to slack on any part of being a responsible Specialist. Soldiers must be and act disciplined in every situation they may find themselves in, whether it’s in or out of uniform. Responsibility increases when soldiers believe that they have personal control over their mission performance, performing out of desire to do well instead of just following orders. Discipline and Duty are two of the main factors in being a successful Soldier in today’s U.S. Army. You must be a disciplined soldier if you want to make it through deployment alive. Or even worse, if you fail to be disciplined you could risk someone else’s life or your entire section’s lives in a combat situation. One example of being disciplined (or in this case, having lack of discipline) is the reason why I’m writing this essay in the first place. I have a task to adhere to the regulations on appearance by not shaving (AR 670-1; 1-7 sec A sub sec 2, para C). Now I find myself writing this essay for SSG Dean and SSG Wells as corrective training to kind of compensate by consuming my personal time…
As stated in AR 670-1, Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia, paragraph 1-7 A, “General. The Army is a uniformed service where discipline is judged, in part, by the manner in which a soldier wears a prescribed uniform, as well as by the individual’s personal appearance. Therefore, a neat and well-groomed appearance by all soldiers is fundamental to the Army and contributes to building the pride and spirit essential to an effective military force. A vital ingredient of the Army’s strength and military effectiveness is the pride and self-discipline that American soldiers bring to their Service through a conservative military image.…
Another good point, everyone wearing the same uniform makes it hard for the enemy to count how many soldiers are attacking. If everyone is different it is easy to distinguish individuals and therefore easier to count them. If we all look the same it makes it very hard to count us because we nearly blend together. The uniform is designed to soften the outline of the human body and they will easily miscount soldiers. Also, there is a reason we have an a SOP for our full battle rattle, everything is in the same spot so it will be easy and quick to find a wounded soldiers IFAK or other supplies. In a combat situation speed and efficiency is critical. Another example is safety, we all wear our armor plates and kevlars (even patches) in specific way because its is the most effective way to wear them. Being an individual or thinking you are special in this situation could cost you your life. Finally for camaflouge, DUH! What dumbass would wear their PTs to a combat mission?…
In everyday life we see people wearing uniforms to be identify in the job that they do an the Army has the uniform to show that a member wearing it is a soldier and that’s what makes it so important. An Army uniform is actually described in Army regulations and Federal law allows military uniforms to be only worn by persons serving in the military. Uniforms tell you not only that a person belongs to a certain group but also that person has skills other people don’t. A police officer is only allowed to wear this uniform if he/she has completed specific training. A nurse is only allowed to wear this uniform if they have completed nursing school. You wouldn’t ask a police officer to perform open heart surgery and you wouldn’t ask a doctor to arrest someone. Think of doctors, nurses, police, firemen and soldiers. A uniform, as opposed to a costume, is clothing of a certain type, style, and make up that is required by the organization the person belongs to. An Army uniform is actually described in Army regulations and Federal law allows military uniforms to be only worn by persons serving in the military.…
