Ronna Mae F. Firmo

Chapter 1
Introduction to the Study Charcoal is one of the most used fire spreader or fuel and considered economically important to Filipinos. Charcoal briquettes are most commonly used on cooking purposes; they are used as a fuel, in order for the fire to produce more heat.

Statement of the Problem and the Hypothesis

This study aimed to find out if there is a possibility of producing ink out of charcoal and is effective and alternative substitute on normal inks. Specifically, this sought to answer the following questions:
1. Is using charcoal on producing ink cost-efficient?

2. Is the charcoal ink quick drying when writing it already on any paper types?

3. Is the charcoal ink lasts long even if it’s just on its container for a long period of time and not on use?

In the view of the preceding problems, the following hypotheses were advanced:
1. There is a possibility on producing ink out of charcoal and is effective and alternative substitute on normal inks.

2. Using charcoal on producing ink is cost-efficient.

3. The charcoal ink is quick-drying when wrote on any type of paper.

4. The charcoal ink lasts long even if it is just on its container for a long period of time and not on use.

Significance of the Study

The results of this study is not just beneficial to the household personnel who commonly use charcoal as their fuels on making fire, but the results of this study is beneficial to the students who commonly use inks as their writing marker as well as to the

Results with sample calculations: The results me and my partner Kody got were actually not that bad. Kody and I both thought that it was not going to turn out good and kind of sloppy, but in the end when we used the ink we made it didn’t look bad at all. It wasn’t the best but at least it wasn’t the worst. It was light when wrote on the paper at first but as time passed our ink started to darken a little…

Charcoal grilling is an American tradition that brings communities together through a shared celebration of food. An important aspect of grilling is food preparation and charcoal is used to heat and cook food. Established in the 1920’s by Henry Ford and his relative E.G. Kingsford, the purpose of charcoal briquettes was to burn longer and hotter than regular wood. Through the years, the firm was purchased by an investment group and later acquired by Clorox in 1973, which owns 50 other products that it distributes. Kingsford had one of the largest products groups within Clorox’s portfolio and in 2000; Kingsford represented 9% of Clorox’s annual revenue and a larger percentage of their net income. In 2000, Kingsford had five facilities which housed both plants which produced regular charcoal (the blue bag) and instant charcoal (the red bag).…

In nature, the two most common found versions of carbon are graphite and diamonds. Graphite is not only used for pencil lead, but many other industries use graphite in their products. One major use for graphite is in the steel industries. The steel companies mix graphite in with the iron to form a more efficient and stronger metal. Graphite can also be used as a dry lubricant. In places where a wet lubricant like oil cannot be used, finely ground graphite powder works great for these places. Graphite is the only nonmetal that is a conductor of electricity, making it desirable by electrical companies for wire and other electrical devices. The other natural form of carbon is diamonds. Diamonds are the most expensive stones mainly because of their beauty, but diamonds are not only for jewelry, in fact the majority of diamonds are used for industrial uses because of their hardness, they are desired by industrial companies for cutting, grinding, and drilling other hard material such as concrete. Carbon is also in many fuels naturally, including oil and coal, which both contain carbon. Steel companies also use carbon to combine with other metals to make carbides. Carbides are extremely hard and durable, resisting rust. Carbon Black is a finely ground carbon is used to make many different types of ink including printer ink and some ink in pens. Carbon Black is also one of the main ingredients in rubber, a insulator of electricity, meaning…

    Ballpoint Pen

The story begins on 1888 when John Loud, an American leather tanner, patented a roller-ball-tip marking pen. Loud’s invention featured a reservoir of ink and a roller ball that applied the thick ink to leather hides. However, it was never produced for the ink was the major problem - if the ink was thin the pens leaked, and if it was too thick, they clogged. Depending on the temperature, the pen would sometimes do both. After almost fifty years, an improved version of Loud’s patent was invented in Hungary in 1935 by Ladislao Biro and his brother, Georg. Ladislao Biro, who studied medicine, art, and hypnotism, was editing a small newspaper-where he was frustrated by the amount of time he wasted filling fountain pens and cleaning up ink smudges. Besides that, the sharp tip of his fountain pen often scratched the newsprint (paper). Determined to develop a better pen, Ladislao and Georg, who was a chemist, set about making models of new designs and formulating better inks to use in them. One summer day, the Biro brothers met Augustine Justo, the president of Argentina. After the brothers showed him their model of…

Mumbai, Aug 8 (PTI) Treasured by many students once upon a time, pens are now quickly turning into plastic waste as the thrift practise of refilling them is dying a slow death.A far cry from till the early 1990's, when writing instruments, in their earlier avatar of fountain pens, had to be recharged from an ink bottle frequently, most of the users now end up throwing away branded pens as they avoid refilling at Rs 3 to buy a new one for as low as Rs 5.Besides, use-and-throw pens are also much in demand with dirt-cheap prices beginning from Rs 2."We have noticed that 80 per cent of the Indian consumers buy pens worth below Rs 10. And since these pens are cheap, they die well before its time," Deepak Jalan, Managing Director of Linc Pen & Plastics Ltd told PTI.One of the top three players in the organised writing instrument industry in the country, Linc struggles to sell only 30 refills against every 100 pens."It can therefore be presumed that roughly 70 per cent of such pens get discarded off early," he says. With longer life a decade earlier, even the nondescript of pens were the prized possession of many a students, for whom holding their favourite fountain pen between their fingers used to be a memorable experience reflecting timeless elegance, personalisation and sentimentality.Nikita Bhatt, a 33-year-old advertising professional in the city, who has preserved her pen collection from her student days, boasts of precious memories attached to the writing instruments."I had an emotional attachment with my pens. These days people might throw them away when it needs a refill, but I would love refilling the barrel of my favourite fountain pen even while writing examinations," she recalls.Professor Parul Dave Mukherji, dean of the arts and aesthetics department of Jawaharlal Nehru University at New Delhi, regrets that the relationship between the pen and the student has seen a decline in the last few…
