College has different meanings for people with diverse reasoning: a get-away from home, extension of sports careers, or a start to the professions of their choice. There are also different ways to earn their way through college, whether it by athletic scholarships, academic scholarships, parents’ money, or even their own money. For those who have to pay their way in college, it is nerve racking to be responsible for paying the yearly costs of their education. For certain colleges do not offer what students need specifically for their academic path at the time they are available; do not have them at all. This causes students to “[Take] longer, since they register for fewer courses then they need to stay on track,” which illustrates the difficulty with managing the students’ courses and daily lives (Marcus 144). In which, affects mostly the students who are working part-time jobs, and work schedules are not flexible; making them unavailable for classes. Having to go extra years in college just feeds the students’ stress.
Some say the reasoning of students needing the additional year of college is due to the fact of their lack of time management, and money. It is possible the student has had made poor decisions in which has obviously affected them later on. The students are more focused on the now instead of what will be, causing them to lose track of the ultimate goal. Admittedly, when a majority of the student body enters college they tend to focus more on the social aspect of college life rather than the academics in which will prepare them for life itself.
