Proposition: To inform the audience about the ship known as the Titanic.
Introduction:
1. The two leaped from the boat into the icy depths of the Atlantic Ocean… a. By now, I’m sure many of you realize what I’m talking about. b. It’s the movie Titanic. 2. While the movie is good for entertainment purposes, it does not go into the details of the actual ship. 3. Personally, I think the actual story of the Titanic is just as interesting as the movie
Preview: Today, I hope to teach you some interesting facts about this amazing ship. 1. First, why and how the ship was built 2. The sailing and sinking of the boat 3. And the aftermath that took place
Transition: First of all, you need to know how the ship was constructed. I. In the early 1900s the transatlantic passenger trade was highly profitable and competitive 1. Two of the main competitors were White Star and Cunard a. Cunard had planned to debut the Lusitania and Mauretania in 1907 b. Looking to rival Cunard, White Star Chairman J. Bruce Ismay partnered with William Pirrie and devised a plan to build a class of large liners c. They decided they would launch three luxury vessels: the Olympic, the Britannic, and the Titanic. 2. On March 31, 1909, the keel was laid for the Titanic. d. It was built next to the Olympic and the sister ships were largely designed by Thomas Andrews e. In addition to being embellished with many decorations, the Titanic featured an immense first-class dining saloon, four elevators and a swimming pool. f. It’s second class accommodations were comparable to other ships’ first-class features, and its third-class accommodations were still noted for their comfort 3. As to the safety elements of the ship, it had 16 compartments that had doors that could be closed from the bridge in case it was filled with water g. Although they were presumed to be watertight, the partitions were

    Fredrick Fleet was the workman on guard on the Titanic on April 14. Fleet, had warned the personnel on the ship’s control deck to look out for icebergs that night, yet nobody was at the control panel that fateful night (McPherson 6). The Titanic was thought to be unsinkable when it was built in 1911. “More than 2,200 people were now aboard the Titanic including 1,300 passengers” (Senan 16). The location the Titanic deported from was Great Britain and it was headed to New York. After three long days of sailing on the North Atlantic, they stopped in Ireland. A few days later, the ship crashed into an iceberg that had made it’s way into North Atlantic from Greenland (Fahey 4). Many people went back to their rooms to get their valuables from down below (Lord 60). Most historians say that they don’t know the exact number of passengers that were on the Titanic because, there was no accurate list of them.     Paramount’s blockbuster film Titanic grossed over a billion dollars and was the most expensive film ever made. The epic romantic disaster film Titanic was based off of a fictional love story, but was established due to the event of the RMS Titanic which sunk on April 15th, 1912. The story that James Cameron created follows the characters of Jack Dawson played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Rose DeWitt Bukater played by Kate Winslet as they fall in love regardless of the different level of social class. Cameron’s ambition of creating this film was that “he wanted to make an exact replica of the "unsinkable" liner in order to best recreate the terrifying final hours to make filmgoers believe they were actually there at the time of the tragedy.” Titanic and Company (2014)…
