UNIT 503 LEVEL 5 LEADERSHIP AND MANAGMENT
1.1
Diversity means difference. It recognises that even though people have things in common with each other they are also different in many different ways. Diversity concludes of non-visible and visible which include staff members, culture, personality etc. Characteristics that are included and protected under the legislation are gender, disability, age, race, religion and belief and sexual preferences. As being co-ordinator in the day centre it is important to understand that each staff member is different which will help enable a comfortable and productive environment within the day centre to ensure each individual client feels valued.
Equality means being equal in status, rights and opportunity's that arise in the day centre, no matter of staff members race, disability, religion, age etc.
Inclusion is enuring all my colleges feel a sense of belonging, feel included, respected by my self and others. It ensures everyone has access to appropriate resources to maximise the level of work performed.
There are two models
Social Model-of disability which views discrimination and attitudes and surrounding environments. it helps focus directly on the person as an individual not on their medical or disability condition. It helps concentrate on endeavouring the client has as much independence as possible.
Medicine Model- is a model which focuses on individuals within the day centre that has an impairment ie mental health issues. We have many clients in the day centre with mental health issues.
Both modles impact on individuals within the day centre on a daily basis. I can assist by ensuring all clients care plans are person centred, ensuring the clients have capacity and included them in all decision making.
In my role as co-ordinator in the day centre, I am responsible to ensure everyone is treated equally. Within the company there are many legislations including the code of practice.
