Abstract
This paper gives meaning to the word case study. It will help with understanding some reasons it is used as well as advantages and disadvantages of case study use. Most of the information given will come from the study in the book, Methods in Behavioral Research by Cozby and Bates (2012), as well as online research results by Saul McLeod (2008). Depending on the need is how one must determine which study is best for the situation and information they are trying to find out. To know which case study is best you much make sure you know the definition of them and apply them to your research. When choosing a case study one much make sure that they pick the best one or the data may not be correct and those who may review the work or use as a comparison can have adverse effects on their study and the future of the results needed to help what originally was being research for purpose of helping a certain matter. Sources for Case Study Information Case studying is not a research method; researchers have to use methods to collect and analysis that will give them the needed materials for case studies such as qualitative and quantitative techniques. They may use interviews, participant observation, official documents (e.g. case notes, clinical motes). This data that is collected would then be analyzed by using different theories. (McLeod, 2008)
Case study information can come from many places,
Archival Research (e.g. statistical records, survey archives, written and mass communication records, content analysis

    There is variance in the understanding and definition of case study among different authors. Bromley (1990, pg. 302) defined case study as “a systematic inquiry into an event or a set of related events which aims to describe and explain the phenomenon of interest”. Case study research examines a person, a phenomenon, an event, a place, or other types of subject of inquiry as a means to understand complex behavioural/contextual/cultural factors (Stake, 1995; Yin, 2014). It helps suggest future trends or bring into limelight previously uncovered issues which can be applied to modern day practice (Labaree, 2017). Though CSRM is often used to explore single subjects of analysis, they can also provide researchers with the tools to study complex phenomena in their own context. As a principal qualitative approach, CSRM can be used to inform evidence-based decision making both in terms of policy realms and clinical professional practice (Baxter & Jack, 2008). The substantial methodological development of CSRM as a qualitative approach over the last four decades has resulted in its use to provide a comprehensive in-depth understanding of different phenomena across various disciplines; due to its flexibility and pragmatic approach (Harrison, Birks, Franklin, & Mills, 2017).     The literature for this week focused on a case study approach. Scholars generally define case study approach as an intensive study of a single case in order to develop explanations generalizable to a larger group of cases (Gerring 2004). This particular approach provides numerous opportunities to scholars. First of all, process tracing allows to achieve conceptual validity in research.
