When I stop and fathom my place in this world,
When I stop and fathom my place in this world,
Generally considered to be one of the most notable of the sacred hymns contained within the book of Psalms, Psalm 139 is perhaps one of the most sublime declarations of the omnipresence of God found in the Bible. Attested to David, Psalm 139 is classified as an “Individual Hymn of Thanksgiving” 1 a genre in which God is praised for the singers’ delivery from oppression and various life-threatening illnesses while also acting as a “Wisdom” psalm, celebrating the creative goodness of God. While the actual date of the text remains unclear as it is notoriously difficult to determine a date and historical context for every psalm, most scholars agree that the hymn was written during the time of King David’s reign, there is however, some dispute among…
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.…
Essentially, the question posed is asking what our personal Christian counseling view is using Psalm 8 and 139. First, the Psalms tell me that God knows me in every way. He knows my every thought, action, and emotion even before I do. In fact, He knew these before He created me (Psalm 139, ESV). This is more than the human mind can truly understand.…
The book of Psalms is a clear acceptance of wisdom and poetry unto God, the Creator of heavens and earth. David, his Sons, and others expressly write their human’s emotions in prayers and hymns to convey a message from their hearts in many ways. The book of Psalms is also equivalent to the New Testament as well, the Old Testament , example, Psalm 22:1 where David cries in agony, just as Jesus Christ did in the Gospel of Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34 collectively describing in Scriptures a separation from God. Nevertheless, God is only prayer away in every…
According to the author of Psalm 23, the speaker’s interactions with God resemble the relationship of a flock to its shepherd because both the psalmist and a flock —…
“Psalm” is the longest book in the bible and is written in prayers, poems, and hymns. It is about God and His creation, war, worship, wisdom, sin, evil, judgement, and the coming of the Messiah. “Psalm 89” talks about Ethan’s realizations about God, the great things that God has done, and the promises that He has made. It also explains that God is angry with the Israelites for sinning, so a psalmist asks The Lord to have mercy on them. After he asks for mercy, he says, “Remember how short my life is, how empty and futile this human existence! No one can live forever; all will die. No one can escape the power of the grave” (Psalm 89.47-48). The people wanted forgiveness but nobody knew how long they would have to live and they knew that death will take over eventually. In other words, they wanted to be forgiven before they…
The use of repetition throughout this prayer puts a spotlight on the most important concepts that Tecumseh covers- life and death. His echoing of commands about how to live your life, contributes to this theme by keeping the reader confident that their life belongs to them and God, alone. Although he repeats his views on living throughout the entire poem, towards the end he switches his repetition to…

The main idea, or thesis of this Psalm is to understand how important and how we should put God’s word as a priority in our life. Therefore, we can interpret the word of God in this Psalm as powerful and authoritative. First, we can say that the word of God is being authoritative, because he is really clear; God gives you the terms and conditions…
This week I spent 20 minutes in prayer and devotion. This week has been much better. Better than my other weeks that’s for sure. I decided I was going to pick a verse and make that verse my specific verse to focus on for the week. So for this week the verse I wanted to focus on was psalm 116:5-9, “The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. For you, Lord, have delivered me from death my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living.” For me this verse has always played a big art in my life. Ironically this was the verse that God had put…
The overriding theme of Psalm 8 is the place of honor God has placed mankind as well as man’s dominion over creation. God’s glory and how all creation sings and shouts His praise and how he protects us from the enemy is in the beginning of the Psalm. Verse:1 Proclaims God’s glory to be greater than all names on the earth and that His glory is too large to be confined to earth, therefore God places it in the heavens at his own bidding. Verse 2: Uses the weakest among us to demonstrate how God uses them as His instruments of Praise to destroy his enemies.…
This essay is on the Bible passage John 8:1-11. In this essay, I will use the process of exegesis by talking about the socio-historical criticism, literary criticism, and ideological criticism. In this passage a woman who commits adultery is brought to Jesus to receive her punishment. Jesus then announced that anyone who hasn’t sinned would be able to throw a stone at her; not a single person threw a stone. The woman was then released and was told to never sin again. By using the three different types of criticism, I now have a better, more thorough understanding of this passage, and the other passages we have studied as well.…
Praise the wonders our God has done in every heart that sings In His wisdom He strengthens us like gold that’s tested in fire though the power of sin prevails Our God is there to save Every moment of every day Our God is waiting to save Always ready to…
When I receive a gift, when a friend visits me, when I discover things and when I've done things beyond my expectations. Like when I enter college. Life was not that easy for me. It's my first time to be alone, far from my family and friends. But surprisingly I learned to become independent. I learned to cook my own food to have something to eat. I learned to washed my clothes. I learned to clean up my rooms. I learned all of these things though I'm not doing all of these before. I also joined the choir and the cheering squad in our school. I don't know what comes in my mind to join in such things because before I'm not used to join those kind of activities in school. It's not that I can't or don't have a talent to show but I'm really that shy and I'm doubting of what could I do. All of these things surprises me a lot. All of these makes me feel happy and think that life is so perfect.…
