What Is The Difference Between Socs And Greasers
Many people think that Socs are different from greasers. Socs are wealthy rich kids who live on the west side of town and like to jump greasers and ride in their mustangs and corvairs. Greasers on the other hand are tuff and ride in souped up cars. They usually carry a switchblade or some other weapon and they are poorer and usually don’t learn as well, plus they put tons of grease in their hair thus the name greasers. Sherri Valance or known as Cherry for her bright red hair is a different type of soc. She doesn’t like the fighting like the other Socs and greasers(pg.45) and she tries to help Ponyboy and his friends out (pg.84). She is cunning, trustworthy and knows that greasers and Socs are all human, that they all watch the same sunset

She felt as if it was her fault that Bob was killed and that Johnny and Ponyboy got published in the paper for murder(pg.86). She knew that the Socs were drunk and that Johnny and Pony fought for self-defense. She took full responsibility even though I don’t think it was her fault any of it happened. Cherry was also able to get Dally of her back when they first met in the movie theater(pg.22). Cherry isn’t only cunning but she is also trustworthy.
Cherry’s trustworthy because she doesn’t like the fighting and she tries to help the greasers stop it. She told the greasers that the Socs weren’t bringing any weapons to the rumble and she was right. She didn’t go to visit Johnny in the hospital which ticked Ponyboy off, but she was staying loyal to her boyfriend Bob who Johnny murdered. When Ponyboy told Cherry her his real name she didn’t laugh or make fun of him, she thought it was pretty cool.
In addition, Cherry believes in equality for greasers and Socs, she knows that they all watch the same sunset(pg.40,130). Cherry doesn’t like how they fight amongst themselves and Socs and greasers all have their problems, not just with money(pg.34).
