Why do schools need Policies and Procedures?
Schools need policies and procedures in place so that the staff, governors, children and parents involved in the school are able to work from the same set of guidelines. Each individual policy will outline its aims, purpose and responsibility.
Schools need to ensure that all policies are kept up to date and revised on a regular basis. The Local Authorities have ‘model’ policies to assist the schools in drawing up their own policy specific to their school.

List the policies and procedures relating to:-
Staff
A school should have in place policies and procedures relating directly to and in accordance with the Employment Rights Act 1996 and these include:
Attendance management
Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave
Disciplinary
Capability
Grievance
Addressing bulling and Harassment
Health and Safety
Code of Conduct
Criminal Records

A school should also have policies and procedures in place to support staff in their management of situations that may involve violence, threatening behaviour and abuse.
The following areas must be covered: * Discipline and behaviour * Abusive, violent or threatening adults visiting the school * Dealing with offensive weapons and knives * Use of reasonable force
By law the schools policies should make clear the boundaries of what is acceptable and a linked in system of rewards for good behaviour.
The policy should promote respect for others around you, and intolerance of bullying and harassment and the difference between right and wrong behaviour.

A school should have a procedure in place to cover Abusive and threatening adults with includes what to do if an incident arises, who to contact in an emergency (members of staff, Local Authority or police), who to report the incident to and how to do that, any follow up procedure that is required, any support available to the staff member concerned such as
