Good morning/afternoon teachers and my fellow classmates. Check it off. Yea, that’s right guys, check it off! Check off the box that says, ‘Raina Doshi’, and vote for me to represent you. Graduation is one of the many occasions that bring both a smile and tears to a student. Being the Valedictorian in a graduation ceremony is utmost honour. And I would like to hold that honour. But why, I hope you’re all wondering should we check it off? Why choose her and not any of the other thirteen people up here. It’s because I know, and deep inside your heart you do too, that I can do the best job representing our student body. I’ve been going in front of crowds ever since I was singing the ABC’s. Being in numerous piano recitals and talent shows have given me the experience to stand before an audience. Even in school, I’ve been MC for assemblies. I am known as a smart and well-rounded person. My grades this year have more often than not been in the high 80s and 90s. Moving on from my academic achievements, I am also involved in our school community. I am a part of Helping Hands, and I hang with a grade 1 student during nutrition breaks. He’s a child quite different from others who requires special help and attention. I work with him almost everyday. Furthermore, I have already represented our school well at the Future Leaders Development Workshop back in April. Last Fall, I was the new kid. I didn’t know anyone and had no friends. Yes, you might call me a loner, but no one did that. This school gave me the opportunity to fit in. I made lots of incredible friends and memories that I’ll forever cherish. The point is this place has given me so much, I feel obligated to give back and represent it. Thank you all for listening. I hope you will consider me to emblematize you. And don’t forget to check it off.

Hello, I am so honored to speak in front of all the parents, staff and my fellow students today. Wow guys we made it! These past 3 years have been full of so many memories that I know we’ll never forget. Think all the way back to 6th grade we were always the littlest ones and I remember feeling like a fish out of water. We were terrified of getting lost or being late for class, but excited to have a locker to decorate and change classes each period. It doesn’t seem like that was over 2 years ago at all. We came back in 7th grade, much more confident than the year before. We looked down to the new 6th graders, asking "Were we really that short just last year?" And by the end of 7th grade I was shocked that I was officially an 8th grader. 8th grade is defiantly my favorite year. I feel like I have everything under control. But next year is full of changes. We'll have free periods, more homework, electives, and an open campus. The new choices also bring new responsibilities that test us in figuring out how we grow from kids to adults. As we say goodbye on the last day we sit together as Balboa students, we reflect on what has happened the past 3 years, but also look forward to what is coming up in the next 4 years. My advice to future 8th graders is to keep up with your school work and try your absolute best and make lots of good, loyal friends that don’t get you in the bad kind of crowd. And most importantly, have fun! This is the last year you will be the oldest in the school for another 4 years, so enjoy it! Before I start with my speech, allow me to ask a very simple question. Have you guys ever complaint about your school, your teachers, or being a student? I bet almost 99.9% of you guys said yes. We actually complain a lot, over the smallest things and lack appreciation. And though this ceremony recognizes our efforts, it also recognizes and pays homage to the dedication of our parents and our teachers. We would not have been able to accomplish this much without their help. So today, in honor of all the students, thank you.
