Step one is to get the requisition and take it into the patients room, you use this to verify the patient. You first identify yourself and indicate the procedure that is about to take place. Check the date and order time on the requisition form. Verify their name, date of birth, and sex. You have to verify the patients allergies to make sure they are not allergic to latex or any of the antiseptics or adhesives that are to be used. If patient is unresponsive you are not allowed to draw the blood unless they have a patient sticker on their armband. You have to verify who the person is. When you finish your collection you the label will be printed for you so all you have to put is time date and initials unless the printer is down and then you have to fill out the tube completely with The person name, Hospital number, time, date, initial and then you send it to the lab if it does not have all five labels the lab will reject it along with some other reasons like the sample begin to go through the hemolysis process, its clotted, the tube is not full, the results on the patient are strange, drug levels are to low or too high or just a simple delta check. Karen Mcllveen Interview

    • 273 Words
    • 2 Pages

Many individuals do not fully understand the responsibilities of a medical technologist if they even know what the occupation refers to specifically. It is often assumed a medical technologist just prepares cultures, run tests, and delivers results and this is not the case. A broad knowledge of the tests being conducted and the bodily substances being studied must be present. Medical technologists take what they know from the patient and compare it to the results to check for any discrepancies. With any type of technology being used, error is always a possibility. It is required that proper calibration and repair knowledge of this technology be used daily in this occupation. Without this, fatal or company based mistakes could be made. General upkeep and procedural guidelines must be followed in the laboratory and everything must be recorded and kept on file in an orderly fashion. Without this type of organization, those in the upper hierarchy of the medical business could suffer because of a simple mistake or overlooking something that appeared insignificant. This paper examines the perspective of Karen Mcllveen in her management position working in the lab at _________.…

“Of all the nasty outcomes predicted for women’s liberation…none was more alarming than the suggestion that women would eventually become just like men.” This quote I thought about it as men are saying that is a bad thing that women COULD be just like men. I challenge this quote or the meaning that men are trying to say. I challenge because by their physical difference(which means the way they think also) and by the way the men do what women should be doing and the way women do what men should be doing.…
