4. Ancient Egyptians developed written language, made up of pictographic symbols for words called Hieroglyphics.…
The four River Valley Civilizations were alike in some ways but they were very different to. The writing system is one of the many ways to tell how all four civilizations are different from each other. In Sumer, they had a writing system with the purpose to spread information & culture. Where in Egypt they created pictograms & it was a very simple form of writing. Later they evolved & created hieroglyphics. India, had the most complex writing system out of all four civilizations. China, in my opinion had a weird way of writing, they wrote on what they called dragon bones. In the late 1800’s two scholars found out the bones had scratches which had a big part in decoding ancient writing. In the four examples they had very different purposes for writing, even though we don’t know how to decode ancient India's writing I think that there writing system was somewhat like the Egyptians because they were really powerful like the Egyptians. Since the dawn of time, technology has been present and has always been a major factor of civilization. The Sumerians invented a material that has forever changed the world; Bronze thus the Sumerians marked the Bronze Age. I believe that this invention caused the Sumerians to become much more powerful but also be a target for many people. Many wars were caused over time for resources like bronze for…
The Rosetta Stone was one of the most important finds in history. But what if it was never discovered? We would've never cracked the code of Hieroglyphics, therefore we wouldn't have any knowledge of Egyptian life at all. Imagine how history could've changed if we never found it.…
The Nile Valley civilization began as early as early as the Paleolithic Age, and a Neolithic culture was formed there around 6000 B.C. By about 3800 B.C. the people of this region began to take steps toward creating an actual civilization. The people discovered how to make copper, tin, and its alloy, bronze. The pottery wheel is believed to be a product of this era. By about 3000 B.C., scientists believe the people began using hieroglyphics as a form of writing. At first, hieroglyphics were carved on slate and ivory, but this was a long and strenuous process that required large amounts of time. Then they discovered that they could use a plant that grew in the marshes called papyrus to write on. Over the centuries, strong leaders united to the regions into two…
A similarity between the Mesopotamians and Egyptians is they both had their own writing system. The Egyptians used hieroglyphics which used pictorial symbols that represented sounds, concepts, or syllables. Because it took so long to learn how to read and write using hieroglyphics,…
The ancient river-valley civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt share many similarities in their social, political, economic, intellectual, and cultural aspects, however, at the same time; both are very separate from one another. Mesopotamia developed first as a civilization without influence, while Egypt built off of the latter to create their own society, hence the shared traits of their educational system, government, religion, and social structure. But, the variable of location also takes place; once the basis of the civilizations were built, they branched off and continued to progress according to their own specific needs, which explains why the differences of the two lay in detail to the economy, intellect, government, and religion.…
Hieroglyphics were the main form of record keeping during the ancient Egyptian time period. They were made up of pictures or symbols that had specific meaning and were used on tombs and pyramids as a way to honor the lives of ancient Pharaohs and the Gods, and to ensure safe passage to the underworld. Hieroglyphics were also used in ancient temples and on sacred texts. They were often referred to as “The Language of the Gods” and were believed to have been discovered by Thoth, the God of knowledge.…
Being on of the oldest civilizations on earth, Egypt is a country in North Africa, on the Mediterranean Sea. The Early Egyptians are thought to have been very knowledgeable individuals. They created and thought of ideas that were far in the future to other groups. When one thinks about the Egyptians, the first thing that probably comes to mind is their practice of mummification. This idea on its own shows the brilliancy that the Egyptians had.…
It is interesting to note that both civilizations grew along great rivers, for example the Euphrates River for Mesopotamia. The civilization of Sumer was even richer than that of the Egyptians and they had developed а civilized community and way of life based on some of the archeology from the time. Their cities were well planned and had great monuments that were made for their rulers, which is also analogous to the Egyptians. Their rulers were powerful, had а firm hold on their people and liked to be praised and linked with Gods. For this to be achieved, they built some of the most amazing monuments that the world has ever seen, from the Sumerian Ziggurats to the Assyrian…
Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia both developed in river valleys. These first civilizations in the Middle East, Mesopotamia between the Tigris and Euphrates and Egypt by the Nile River. They are early civilizations that relied heavily on geographies and their surrounding environment. Mesopotamia featured distinctive cultures and was also the home of the worlds first set of laws. The Egyptian civilization formed near the Nile River and in the Sahara desert, so a strong society was needed to prosper in this harsh environment. As both civilizations formed close to important rivers and fertile land, they developed similarly (Ecks, 2012).…
Although Egypt and Mesopotamia were both early agricultural societies built upon the water provided by the major rivers which sustained them, they exhibited important differences as a consequence of the different physical environments in which they developed. In this paper I will first focus on what I consider to be the major aspects of these differences in environment and then explore the consequences of these differences in their religious beliefs, political organization and commercial practices.…
Egyptian civilization, formed by 3000 B.C., benefited from trade and technological influence from Mesopotamia, but it produced a quite different society and culture. Because its values and its tightly knit political organization encouraged monumental building, we know more about Egypt than about Mesopotamia, even though the latter was in most respects more important and richer in subsequent heritage. Egyptian civilization from its origins to its decline was focused on the Nile River and the deserts around it. Egyptian civilization may at the outset have received some inspiration from Sumer, but a distinctive pattern soon developed in both religion and politics.…
The Sumerians emerged approximately 3000 to 2500 B.C. in a region known as the "Fertile Crescent" located between the Euphrates and Tigris River and were considered by most historians to be the world's first civilization. During this period of time, a form of writing was established known as cuneiform. It was from this form of writing that we discovered a great epic known as Gilgamesh and became enlightened about the Man to God relationship of the Sumerian culture.…
Ancient Egypt was the birthplace of many world-changing inventions. Hundreds of years before the Chinese invented paper, Egyptians invented the use of papyrus to make a paper-like material on which to write. In fact, the word “paper” comes from the Greek word for papyrus. Papyrus was ahead of its time, more so than the Mesopotamian method of writing on clay tablets. Egyptians made the design of the chariot better by making it lighter and faster and changing the position of the axle. Mesopotamians didn’t even have experience with horses until they were invaded by the Assyrians in 1400 BC. Egyptians built the Great Pyramids of Giza, which is the…
Not only did they develop language through hieroglyphics and trade they developed the art of mathematics making trade a simpler job. their government was one of the first complex systems with different levels of authority and one of their most well known accomplishments is their completely jaw dropping massive Pyramids, they were exceedingly amazing at craftsmanship creating pottery and even jewelry. These advancements made trade and communication much simpler and much more likely these small advancements may seem small to us but even today you can see the large impacts they have made on our world wide culture and development and understanding of ancient technologies. To think all of their accomplishments may have been harder and nearly impossible…
