P.J Nayak
Morgan Stanley on Thursday appointed Mr P. Jayendra Nayak as the Chief Executive Officer and Country Head for India with effect from April 5.
Mr Nayak was Chairman and CEO of Axis Bank from January 2000 until April 2009.
In 2009, he became a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Monetary Policy of the Reserve Bank of India.
He is currently an Operating Partner at Advent International Private Equity and non-executive Chairman of Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company.
Before joining Axis Bank, Mr Nayak was Executive Trustee of the Unit Trust of India.
Mr Nayak started his career as a civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service. From 1990 to 1995, he worked in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance of the Government.

Dr. Nayak is currently the Managing Director and Country Head of Morgan Stanley India. From 2000-2009 he was the Chairman and Managing Director of Axis Bank, a domestic commercial bank. Earlier, between1971-1996, he worked as a civil servant, and was an officer of the Indian Administrative Service. Between1990-95 he worked in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Nayak has an MA and Ph.D. in Economics from Cambridge University.

PJ Nayak, who transformed Axis Bank into India's fourth-largest by market capitalisation from an also-ran bank in a decade, has been hired as the chief executive of Morgan Stanley India to boost its fortunes amid intensifying competition from JPMorgan and BankofAmerica Merrill Lynch.
The 63-year-old plain-speaking former bureaucrat will take charge at the company in April with the mandate to grow the investment banking, wealth management and securities trading businesses.
