Personal Narrative: My Experience With Golf
Golf has been a life changer for me. I've played golf since I was three years old. In summer, I play golf every day. I began playing competitively when I was seven. I live on a golf course and my dad is a golf instructor, so I’ve grown up around the game. I’ve had many great experiences with golf. My most memorable golf experience was at the 2015 Drive, Chip, and Putt national finals. Upward of 10,000 kids ages seven to fifteen, boys and girls, tried out for this event. I was one of eighty total kids and one of ten in my age group to qualify. There was three qualifiers, local, in which i had to place top three in my age group, sub-regional, in which I had to place top two in my age group, and regional, in which I had to win to qualify for the national finals at Augusta National golf club on April 5th, 2015. …show more content…
April came fast. The night before the competition, there was a dinner at which I got to meet many famous people in the golf world. The next day, I was going to walk the grounds of Augusta National. The driving part of the competition, which came first, was a success. I got to hit two drives, my best was 230 yards. The format of scoring is the best competitor for each part of the competition received ten points and the worst received one point. I got seven points in the driving part of the competition, so I was right there with the leader. I struggled in the chipping, so I only received three points in that part of the competition. I was trailing by six points heading into the final part of the competition, putting. The best part of my game has always been putting, so I had faith that I could still

The golfers that make the top 125 money list have done so because of their golfing skill, although technology has played a huge role in the development of the game. From 1992 to 2003, the average driving distance has improved from 260 yards to 286 yards. This is a significant increase in distance, but it doesn’t necessarily translate to lower scores. The questions still remain of how does this increase in driving distance effect overall performance and driving accuracy? A fresh breeze blew and ruffled the grass at the Lake of the Woods golf course in Mahomet, Illinois. The leaves fell from the trees and drifted amongst the wind. As I hauled the unopened tent towards my destination, there was lots of chatter, as well as some excitement, but no one spoke of the possibility of success in the monumental task ahead. We set up the tent and waited. We were awaiting the moment that we would go to where they had specified the activity to begin, the moment where most of the team would receive the opportunity to attempt the task we had been striving forward to achieve for the last few months. Except for me, I would be required to stay there just to cheer for those who participate, unless someone became injured to the…

Golf can be taught and played in several ways. Which is the best method? How can one evaluate these methods? One sport that got my eye was baseball my senior. I love the feeling of having to be out on the on the field saying nothing but chewing gum or spitting out sunflower seeds. Having to make quick actions that can win or prevent the enemy from scoring. Having to go up to bat I always had a game face. If I took a swing and would miss I would close my eyes in failure to ashamed to look at my coach and team. However if I had got a base hit I would run not looking anywhere but to the base…

Growing up, I was never naturally athletic and very injury prone. Regardless of these issues, I always remained determined and strived to accomplish my goals. As I enter high school one of my main goals was to make the varsity tennis team. During my freshmen year I practiced every day for the first 3 months of school hoping that I could just make the team. Unfortunately I tore a ligament in my wrist for the second time which prevented me from practicing till right before the tennis season started. I ended barely making the JV team which was very disappointing, but it only motivated me for next year. In my heart I knew that I if I was determined enough I could play varsity next year on my own merit. As I progressed through the sophomore year,…

I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional…

About two years ago, I made the decision that I wanted to play golf. Most people consider it one of the easiest sports to play. I can see why. I don’t have to run or really do anything athletic however, the hardest thing about golf is overcoming the mental aspect. The mental aspect of playing golf has made a noticeable impact not only in my game, but in my everyday life as well. This was not something that happened overnight. I still struggle with it today. I used to be extremely negative and hard on myself to the point that I had a difficult time letting myself just play. I was so criticizing toward myself that I didn't even want to continue to play. I needed to learn to let some things go, whether it be a bad shot or a bad hole. I had to…

As a sophomore in high school, I have taken part in a variety competitions ranging from athletics, to academics, and even competitive games for entertainment. Nonetheless, I hardly cared about my success in the majority of them; I didn't care enough to try, probably due to my lack of motivation, or the fact that I was forced into competing through peer pressure, or the high expectations of my family. However, one should always strive for success in everything they do, no matter how small the task; this is a lesson I learned through competing in my school’s Future Business Leaders of America club over the last year.…

Counting to eight as I slowly raise one of my leg to do a “ballet leg” in the water was something that 6th grade me never imagined doing. Tossing a ball up to serve and trying to keep the ball in play to win a point was another thing that 6th grade me never imagined doing. What’s another thing that 6th grade me never imagined doing? Running with a pole down a straight path to get my whole body over a bar. So you can maybe already guess that 6th grade me wasn’t fond of sports. The reason why I just didn’t like sports wasn’t because I didn’t have an athletic ability or found it plain stupid, like most people do. The real reason why I didn’t like sports was that anxiety has taken over in me. Anxiety made me believe I didn’t have an athletic…

My Older Brother Tucker, who is now 25 years old, used to play high school golf back when he was my age. He played on the Northpointe Christian Boys Varsity Golf team all 4 years of high school. He got to play on the team with a few of his cousins as well. Throughout those 4 years of high school golf, Tucker played in a countless amount of golf tournaments. As a little kid, I would go cheer on and watch Tucker in most of his golf tournaments. Being there to watch my older play golf, was something I loved doing. I was cocky going into the match, because I had played and beaten Jacob, my opponent, beforehand. I assumed that the skinny, lanky sophomore was nothing more than a pushover that I could dispatch easily. The match started out with my serve, another boost to my confidence, and progressed smoothly as I quickly won the first game. But I quickly realized that Jacob would not go down so easily. He sprinted, lunged, and chased after every single ball no matter what speed or power I put on each shot. He patiently persisted, meticulously striking each shot to be not fast but instead consistent- my biggest weakness. I began to panic. I started to hit balls harder, causing me to make more mistakes, and taking more risks in order to end the grueling rallies that ran me dry. I tried everything that I could think…
