Ms. Nardi Reflective Essay During the past five weeks me and my group, David, Brandon, and Ethan, have learned many things from our book and our group discussions. The book are group decided to do was Runner, by Carl Deuker, a fiction novel based on a child who must make his own money to pay for his fathers bills. All together my group had four meetings and all of them helped us to learn more about the book, ourselves as a group participant, and as peers. From our group discussions had a greater grasp of the book we were reading. For me I was able to fully understand the underlining conflict throughout the whole book. Without the help of my group I would not been able to figure out the plot or the whole point of the story. Also throughout the story the main character change his view on the world around him, I however did not pick this up and when we went to go and discuss the section they helped my out. Without them I would have never been able to figure out the point in the story. During these few weeks I learned what my abilities where as a group participant. I found out that I was a good sharer of the activity that got assigned to us. I always had the group discussion director, which had the task of finding questions in the book and writing them down and repeating them to your group and having them answer then question as best they could. As with the other activities we all put in good thought to them and gave us good insight on what they thought of the certain section of the book. My peers also had a good lesson in the group discussions. Their contribution to the group was good. They helped each other out in their problems and also the questions. Without all of their help our whole group would not have been able to complete any of the activities, group discussions, and the final presentation.

My groups presentation I think overall went very well. Our goal was to present on the life of Frederick Douglass, but putting more emphasis on his later years. We had a rather larger group of people who were not very familiar to each other, but we were all able to coordinate times, and make it work for the better. Having a larger group, I think we were able to find a lot of information, in fact, maybe more than we needed. The amount of information that is out there about Frederick Douglass is incredible. It was one of the reasons that we were fortunate enough to present on such an interesting person. We broke the paper up by each covering a different part of his life. Kevin covered his early life, until the point on Douglass's life where he met William Loyd Garrison. This is when Douglass's public speaking career started, this was covered by Reece. I myself focused on Douglass's life outside of the U.S.. Brendan focused his concentration on the literary work of Douglass, and Drew researched his affiliation with U.S. Presidents and other political/authority figures.…

One’s final moments often leave many questions. “What will my final thoughts be?” or “What would my final statement to the world be?” Reflections on death are often avoided because death can be terrifying but, if forced to think about it, what would you do in the final moments of your life? The author of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce, wants the reader to focus on his or her final moments and how they might unfold. The author is able to make the reader feel as though he or she is actually sharing the protagonist, Peyton’s, terrifying experience and provokes reaction and deep feeling. The plot is intriguing, unique and takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster. By using character development, the author is able to make the main character personable and relatable. Additionally, the setting and it’s description, pulls the reader into the text and transports him/her to Peyton’s world. The author hooks the reader with these elements and ultimately forces him or her to reflect on his/her last moments of life.…

During the lesson, I wanted to make sure that the students had many opportunities for interaction between each other and with the teacher. This is why I incorporated group work and had the teacher walking around to monitor and also having her provide models for the students. When the students are given opportunities for interaction, they can learn from each other and help each other with challenging subjects. This will be both beneficial for the students who are helping and the students who are learning. The one who is helping will grow stronger in their understanding of the material because they have to explain it in a way that is comprehensible to the other students. Because the students themselves know what makes concepts easier to understand, the students who are struggling will learn the concepts in a different way than the teacher would express them.…

She helped make sure that everyone was able to meet and exceed goals and objectives of the project. She created meeting times and work days so everyone can make it and do their part of the project. Sara and I helped with feedback and talked with to see what days were good for everyone in the group. We worked together as a team and we identified the strengths and weaknesses of each team member and inspired them to do their best work in an effective manner. Lexi was indeed our weakest of the group, consider we had to tell her what to do, rather than taking the initiative to do it. Same goes with Savannah, but she was always negative about ideas and concerns of the project. Cassandra went with the flow about everything and was in the same boat as Jessica, Sara, and I…

Groups are a fundamental structure for accomplishing a wide variety of human tasks. I love working in groups because they give you a chance to work together with new personalities and new, refreshing ideas. The only time I don't like working in groups is when there are people who aren’t willing to put the effort they could and posses, into the work assigned. During our last two classes we were separated into groups of six and given different topics which we were supposed to come up with solutions for. For the most part my group worked very well together on the first topic. We had great communication, and everyone was able to share their opinion on the matter. I believe that our group showed all of the characteristics of a healthy group, and if I had to do future group work I would most definitely choose to work with that group again. We showed interdependence which is the relation between two or more people and how their relationship directly affects the other. First, we started off by explaining the topic to the group again, than we each took turns going around in the circle and explaining how we each felt about the subject. After each person was done, the group took turns asking that person about questions about their view of the subject trying to take in everybody else’s opinions as well as our own and taking them into consideration instead of just throwing out someone else’s idea.…

A short story concentrates on creating a single dynamic effect and is limited in character and situation. It is a language of maximum yet economical effect. Every word must do a job, sometimes several jobs. Short stories are filled with numerous language and sound devices. These language and sound devices create a stronger image of the scenario or the characters within the text, which contribute to the overall pre-designed effect. As it is shown in the metaphor 'lipstick bleeding gently' in Cinnamon Toast. This describes how the lipstick on a woman's faces is travelling from the lips into the skins around the mouth. The author has chosen this metaphor because it contributes to the reader gaining a stronger image of the characters that they may wear too much makeup and try too hard sociably. It also shows that they are older (i.e. l…
