Personal Protective Equipment Assignment:

Please answer the following scenarios and submit this assignment to your instructor by Tuesday at midnight. Each scenario will require the student to list the minimum required Personal Protective Equipment (be specific with types of gloves, masks, and gowns) needed to successfully protect the employee, the patient, and others in the ambulatory care setting. Please refer to your Delmar textbook and workbook to help you answer the following scenarios:

Scenario # 1: The Medical Assistant is preparing to perform a venipuncture on a patient who has come into the office for their annual physical exam.
The MA would need to wear a Protective mask with shield, Non-sterile gloves, Scrubs

Scenario # 2: Patient Sonny Jones is here for symptoms that include fever, sweating, lots of nasal congestion, and a cough that is productive in nature. This patient has been in contact with family members who just tested positive for the flu. Non-sterile mask for Sonny (patient), and a pair of Latex gloves for MA.

Scenario # 3: The Medical Assistant is assisting Dr. Jacobs with a cyst removal (a surgical procedure) in the office setting. Surgical mask, Sterile gloves, Sterile gown for MA and Surgical mask, Sterile gloves and Sterile gown for Physician.

Scenario # 4: The Medical Assistant is assisting Mrs. Johnson to the exam table in the patient room. Mrs. Johnson has Stage 2 lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments – she tells the Medical Assistant that the oncologist called and told her that her WBC count is 2.1 and that she cannot be around anyone who is ill, etc. Isolation gown, Face mask with shield, examination gloves, for MA. Also an Isolation gown for Patient.

Scenario # 5: The Medical Assistant is assisting her co-worker in cleaning up a blood spill in the office laboratory. MA would put on rubber, latex, or PVC gloves for small spills. For large blood spills you would call HazMat
